Welcome to Farmhouse Favorites!

In recent years one major trend has been a desire to get back to our roots of a simpler country life.

Many people are starting to crave a lifestyle where you can live off the land and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Because of this, restoring and repurposing pieces of the past has become increasingly popular and whether it is an actual 100 year old structure or salvaged barnwood, these trends have brought to life the farmhouse style that has grabbed our attention and is here to stay.

Unfortunatley, we can’t all live that simple life in the country but, we can surround ourselves with things that conjure up all of those feelings.

That is the beauty of the farmhouse look.

Bright, open and airy spaces are the foundation of the style.

While architectural elements like hand hewn beams, and vaulted ceilings are fortunate finds if you are lucky enough to already have them, with the right furniture, lighting and accessory choices you too can give your home that farmhouse feel.

Here are a few of my favorite tips:

-Choose light paint colors in shades of warm whites, grays, pale greens and blues.

-Some rustic wood is a must, perhaps on a farm table which is an anchor for the design.

-Lighting cannot be overlooked as it can set the mood for a glamorous feel or a more industrial vibe.

-Accessories should be well chosen, bring in authentically vintage pieces if at all possible.

-Adding in layers of warmth with baskets, throws and rugs will make your family and guests feel at home.

Which brings us to today’s theme…..Creating the Farmhouse Look.

You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. These inspiration pictures say it all.

Choose your accessories well and they will have a big impact. Hang a large wall clock to make a statement. Lean a grand mirror on a fireplace mantel as it will contribute to that timeless appeal. Throw in some vintage found items for authenticity like an olive bucket with a true patina.
