Colorful Shapes and Patterns are making a huge splash in the world of Home Decor this year. From small accent pieces like pillows and throws, to larger items like hutches and chairs, using vibrant colors in your space is definitely a very current way to make a bold statement about design and personal taste. For one company, LOFT209 Home Decor, designing with dramatic shapes and patterns while using all of the colors in the rainbow in nothing new. Recently, The Deco & Bloom Team had the privilege of sitting down with LOFT209 Founder and Lead Designer Howard Huynh to discuss his newest collection for the Fall/Winter 2015 Season, his fundamental beliefs about home decor, and what we can expect to see next from LOFT209.

Howard, thank you so much for sitting down with us today! For our readers, who may not be familiar with LOFT209 home decor, please tell us about your Company and how you got started.

LOFT209 home decor was founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, CA. After years of designing and creating custom pieces for friends and interior designers, I finally decided it was time to share my designs with the world. I was obsessed by the classic British Cane pattern and with that it became a part of our logo and every design since. The initial concept for LOFT209 home decor grew out of a passion for luxury goods with modern design and functionality. I wanted to offer refined aesthetics paired with practicality. I believe in bringing nature, beautiful color schemes, familiar patterns, and a romantic story that embraces our home decor. I want to romance the client [with] each decorative element we design.

Well, congratulations on your new endeavor! How would you describe the overall style of LOFT209?

[LOFT209 Home Decor’s style is] colonial chic with a modern twist.

The use of strong geometric patterns is incredibly prevalent in most of your designs, what draws you to the use of shapes in your designs?

I find shapes in everything. It’s intrinsic. When I become inspired by something, a butterfly, an orchid or a flock of wild geese, I automatically begin to build shapes with them and around them. I [mentally] deconstruct my muse and create something wonderfully different, but that speaks to the original object. I also often deconstruct our signature British Cane pattern to infuse in the design. You will see a lot of that throughout our couture decorative pillows.

Here at Deco & Bloom we believe that Home Decor is art that we use as an expression of ourselves in our homes. What do you imagine the typical LOFT209 customer’s lifestyle look’s like and how do you think your pieces fit into their homes?

We [also] believe home decor is an artistic expression of yourself. It’s why we choose to decorate our homes with functional accessories that makes us feel good and makes our homes look beautiful. What’s wonderful about LOFT209 home decor is that it’s relevant to the city, a summer home at the beach, a high-powered executive, or a gay couple that just got married: everyone and anyone that appreciates luxury, color and beauty. We find that LOFT209 is, in and of itself, a lifestyle brand as opposed to just home decor.

Recently you released your South African Inspired Fall/Winter collection, what was your inspiration behind choosing South Africa and using such colorful and vivid patterns?

We would love to say that we flew to South Africa on a safari and lived with the Zulu tribe for inspiration. But let’s be real, who has the luxury to fly to South Africa on holiday? We were actually mesmerized by the exotic African wildlife on a visit to the zoo and where else, but National Geographic’s features on South Africa.

We are inspired by the people that call Africa their home. Traditional face paint, woven baskets and hunting weapons brought together with animal pelts, floral, and wild birds embody each design, ideal for the classic with a wild side that beckons to be released or the extravagant that desires something fun, modern and always unique.
