With modern houses getting all sorts of new smart gadgets, and technology, if there is one room that often gets overlooked it’s the kitchen. The kitchen is one of the rooms that we spend the most time in, and it’s very easy to think of the kitchen as a fixed place that has no need for changes and updates, but the truth is that in recent years a great number of innovations have come about that can help transform your kitchen into a brand new room. Whether you are looking for some inspiration to make some kitchen updates, or you just want to see what sorts of innovations to look for in the kitchen of your new home, check out our list of must have kitchen innovations.
Pot Filler: When you tend to cook large meals, nothing is worse than filling up an enormous pot of water at the sink, then turning around and realizing you are going to have to try to carry it over to the stove without spilling the whole thing. One of the best up-and-coming new innovations in the world of the kitchen is the pot filler, a faucet generally connected behind, or nearby to the stove, allowing for quick and easy filling of pots without ever having to leave the cook top. Most models, like the Hudson Reed Wall Mounted Retractable Pot Filler featured above, feature foldable designs with stiff necks, allowing for quick access, precision pouring, and ease of storage when not in use. What seems like a simple addition to a kitchen can save tons of time and energy when it comes to meal prep-work.
Warming Drawer: Warming drawers are a fantastic addition to any kitchen, with so many uses that its hard not to wonder how you got along without one before. The warming drawer isn’t necessarily a new innovation; warming drawers have been present in kitchens for many years, but recently they have come back into vogue as built-in drawers, rather than their free-standing forerunners. These built-ins have the ability to blend right in to your cabinetry, concealing the appliances true nature until opened to reveal a dinner kept warm, rolls being heated to melt butter, or even plates and cups being warmed for a hot meal. The unit featured above is the Dacor IWD27 Renaissance 27″ Custom Panel Electric Warming Drawer, which has multiple heat settings, and an enormous interior, allowing you to keep several plates of food warm at the same time (there’s nothing better when you are coming in late than a nice hot plate food that doesn’t need to see the inside of a microwave before it’s ready to eat!)
Touch Faucet: When it comes to cleanliness, and avoiding cross contamination there are few devices in a kitchen more important than the kitchen sink itself, so it comes as quite the surprise that the traditional sink can also be responsible for the spread of contamination. With a traditional sink design when you approach with your hands coated in whatever food you were just preparing, you simply turn the knob to activate the faucet, soap your hands up, and wash away the grime. But then comes the fatal mistake, as you grab the knob to turn off the sink and come right back into contact with whatever contaminates you just washed off your hands, effectively undoing any good to come of the hand washing procedure. Many public restrooms, realizing this issue, have begun to come equipped with touch-less faucets, but most homes still use old fashioned style faucets. There is, however, a new type of faucet, that combines the style of an old fashioned kitchen faucet, with the cleanliness of a touch-less faucet: the touch faucet. These faucets can produce water with just a touch, from any uncontaminated portion of skin, and can be deactivated the same way. Just handled raw meat? Now you can turn on that sink without ever having your hands come in contact with it! And with such beautiful designs, like the Addison Single-Handle Pull-Down Sprayer Kitchen Faucet pictured above, there is no doubt that the touch faucet is well on it’s way to becoming a kitchen must-have in all homes.
Automatic Soap Dispenser: After the touch faucets featured above, it’s easy to see that the soap dispenser in your kitchen is another potential point of cross contamination that needs to be addressed. Luckily, yet another technological kitchen marvel can help prevent the spread of contaminates, the automatic soap the dispenser. As with the touch-less faucets mentioned above, the automatic soap dispenser has been in some public restrooms for some time, but cost, design, and lack of availability to a consumer market has kept it out of homes for a few years now. All of that is starting to turn around now, with the release of more and more consumer automatic soap dispensers, with sleek and stylish designs, and low price tags. The GBB Soap Dispenser, pictured above, is an excellent example of a chic, modern, automatic soap dispenser. These technological innovations are certainly a welcome sight in the never ceasing war against cross contamination in the home kitchen!
IDevices Kitchen Thermometer: One could be forgiven for thinking that there are no really modern innovations in the way we cook food outside of the appliances which we use to do so. After all, a spatula is a about as complex as it can get right? Our next fascinating disproves that concept though with a brand new sort of thermometer that will allow you to cook far more smartly than an old fashioned thermometer. The IDevices Kitchen Thermometer is a meat thermometer that remotely connects to your Ipad or Iphone, allowing you to read the temperature of the meal you are cooking, and even set alarms when it reaches the desired temperature. No more checking a small, fogged up, glass thermometer screen, or checking back on the meal repeatedly to ensure that it’s not burning. A quick glance at your device can tell you exactly where what the temperature of your meal is. The larger package even comes with multiple sensors so you can monitor multiple zones in the meal.
Liebherr Appliances: When it comes to beautiful, modern appliances, it’s tough to get much better than Liebherr. With a full range of refrigerators and wine fridges, there’s something for everyone in Liebherr’s collection.
