Halloween is a great time for families to come together, from baking tasty treats, to making costumes and trick-or-treating.  One of the best things about Halloween is the large number of well themed spooky movies that are great for getting you into the Halloween spirit, and what could be more fun than sitting down with your family and watching a great movie?  In the spirit of Halloween based family fun, we have put together a list of some of our favorite, family friendly, Halloween films to watch with the whole crew, so gather up some sweet treats, and sit down with your little  goblins for a night filled with fun and fright!

This Tim Burton Halloween classic about Jack, the Pumpkin King growing bored of his yearly routine and longing for something new, is a wonderful movie that the whole family can enjoy.  Between it’s surprisingly intelligent humor, fantastic musical score, and spooky atmosphere, there’s something to get everyone in the family into the Halloween spirit.

This early 90’s Halloween classic makes for a great Halloween tradition, with outrageously funny comedy, and a Halloween theme guaranteed to delight.  The film does carry a PG, and may not be appropriate for very young children, but the rest of the family is sure to love it.

Casper is a timeless Halloween that has spawn dozens of spin offs, from comics, to cartoons, to this live action family film.  A ghostly tale of love and family, there’s just no beating Casper as a family ghost story this Halloween.

Beetlejuice (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) (♥ Please use this link to show us some love. This is an Affiliate Link.)

This ghostly tale of a couple who are having a bit of trouble adjusting to the their after life will have your whole family dying with laughter.  Between Tim Burton’s fantastic direction in this, one of his earlier major films, and Michael Keaton’s superb acting, this will quickly become a family favorite around your house.  Just be careful home many times you say the movies name!

When it comes to spooky movies for the whole family, it’s tough to beat Time Burton.  This story of man unwittingly wed to a dead woman and seeking his way back into life is a heartwarm tale, with well rounded characters that will leave you eerily happy when you are done with it.

When it comes to classic family films, you really can’t do better than Charlie Brown.  Pick any holiday and we will whole heartedly recommend the Charlie Brown special as a must see, and Halloween is certainly no exception to that rule!

If your family has enjoyed films like the Neverending Story, or the Dark Crystal, this family friendly film is great choice for a Halloween treat.  Written by Jim Henson, and executive produced by George Lucas, this films plot and beautifully crafted sets will make for a great way to get everyone into the Halloween spirit.

This movie based on Ray Bradbuy’s 1972 novel of the same name, this spooky Halloween tale is a fantastic movie for the whole family, combining fun and adventure with a little bit of knowledge.  It even has some great information on the significance of some of the common Halloween costumes and themes that can be fascinating, even for adults.

This live action film adaptation of Charles Addams’ Addams Family has a little something for everyone, and will keep you laughing through.  Having been adapted into several different media over the years, the Addams Family “survives” this transition extremely well.  In an interesting side note, the author of the novel that our last film was based on, Ray Bradbury (one of the most notable science fiction writers of the 20th century) also had a hand in the development of the Addams Family.
